About Park County

Park County is located in south central Montana and includes the beautiful and agricultural Paradise and Shields Valleys. Park County offers a wide variety of sights and out door activities including hunting, fishing, cross country skiing, swimming in hot springs, horse back riding and camping trips.

Livingston is the county seat as well as the Gateway to Yellowstone National Park. Wildlife abounds throughout the county, whether you are traveling North and South on U.S. Highway 89 from Wilsall to Gardiner (don’t forget an awe inspiring drive to Cooke City, Silvergate and Jardine) or East and West from Springdale to 10 miles past Livingston on Interstate 90 which runs parallel to the tracks that once carried hundreds of passengers on the Northern Pacific Railroad.

Park County has a population of approximately 16,143 people and covers 1,681,280 acres. We have two incorporated cities -- Livingston and Clyde Park. The county also contains several smaller communities including Wilsall, Pine Creek, Springdale, Emigrant, Pray, North Glastonbury, South Glastonbury, Sedan, Corwin Springs, Gardiner, Cooke City, Silvergate, and Jardine. The Yellowstone River runs clear, clean and undisturbed from Gardiner through Livingston to Springdale and through Billings to the east before heading south.

Park County is bordered by Meagher County to the North, Gallatin County to the West, Sweet Grass County to the East, and Wyoming to the South. Our elevation ranges from 4,000 to 12,000 feet. There is one hospital, two clinics and four airports in Park County. Our diverse economy includes everything from agriculture, logging, mining, and recreation to ISPs and other digital technologies.
