Park County Commission
Planning Board
Planning Board members are appointed for two-year terms by the Park County Commission. The board consists of
seven county residents with various occupations and interests. The Planning Board works in conjunction with the Park County Planning
Department on long-range planning and community development (public health, safety, and general welfare).
During Planning Board meetings, board members are supported by Planning Department staff and other invited
experts as the board evaluates planning projects and documents such as the subdivision applications, regulations, county growth policy, parks, trails, etc. The Planning Board records and analyzes related public
comment, makes findings of fact based on public comment, and forwards recommendations with findings to the Park County Commission.
County residents are encouraged to attend Planning Board meetings and hearings, which are always recorded and
open to the public.

State Statute: MCA 76-1
Authority: “The planning board shall serve in an advisory capacity to presently established boards
and officials.” (from Montana Code Annotated MCA 76-1-102)
Role: “To ensure the promotion of public health, safety, morals, convenience, or order or the
general welfare and for the sake of efficiency and economy in the process of community development, if requested by the governing body, the planning board shall prepare a growth policy and shall serve in an advisory
capacity to the local governing bodies establishing the planning board.”
“The Planning Board may propose policies for:
- subdivision plats;
- the development of public ways, public places, public structures, and public and private
utilities;
- the issuance of improvement location permits on platted and unplatted lands; or
- the laying out and development of public ways and services to platted and unplatted
lands.”
