The Community Development Department was created by the Board of County Commissioners in March, 2010 by consolidating several County "stand-alone" Boards, Commissions, Committees and the Planning Department into a single department. The result was a Community Development Department with responsibilities for:

1. Economic Development

2. Floodplain Management

3. Planning

4. Natural Resources and Environment

5. Parks and Recreation

6. Grants and Grant Administration

7. Historical Preservation

8. Administration of Special Projects

9. Community Assistance

In addition, the Department provides staff support to the Planning Board, Parks and Recreation Board, Board of Adjustments, Planning and Zoning Commission, Economic Development Sub-committee and the Renewable Natural Resources Sub-committee.
