Located in Southeastern Montana, surrounded by Custer, Gallatin and Shoshone National Forests, Cooke City is enjoyed year round by residents and visitors. Fishing, hiking, camping, snowmobiling and cross country skiing are enjoyed here.
Strong history surrounds the area, including mining. Cooke City was formerly known as the Miners Camp, Galena City and Clarks Fork City. To the north, one can find remains of mining claims and old miner's cabins. The east side of Cooke City is the Chief Joseph Scenic Highway and Beartooth Mountain Range. Yellowstone National Park is to the west.
