About County Roads
Roads in Park County may be
federal, state, county, or privately owned. Determining whether a road is a county road is a fact-specific determination that requires documentation and legal analysis. Park County cannot provide legal determinations to private
parties on whether or not a road is a county road. Private legal counsel should be consulted for detailed information regarding Montana laws and how to determine whether a road is or is not a county owned road.
The Park County Roads: Frequently Asked Questions brochure provides additional information about county roads.
Park County Road Document Research
The Park County Road Book
is available in the Clerk and Recorder’s Office. The Road Book contains all proceedings and adjudications related to the establishment, maintenance, change, and discontinuance of roads and road districts or related to road supervisors and their reports and accounts.
Additional road records, including the Sackett surveys and other early surveyor documents, are available at the Clerk and Recorder’s Office. Access to these documents is
provided via the Clerk and Recorder’s Policies and Procedures. No fees are charged to access records. There are fee rates established for copying records.
There are a few early maps that are not available in the Clerk and Recorder’s Office. These maps can be requested
through the County Commissioner’s Office. The Commission will request the Planning Department to obtain them.
