The Park County Planning Board (“Planning Board” or “Board”) is a group of citizens who advise the County Commission on planning, land use, and community development. According to the Montana Code Annotated (MCA), the governing body of any county “may create a planning board in order to promote the orderly development of its governmental units and its environs” (76-1-101). Board members are volunteers, appointed by the County Commissioners except for one member, who is appointed by the Park County Conservation District. All members reside in the unincorporated area of Park County.

When county residents serve on county boards and commissions, they volunteer their service for the betterment of local communities and Park County. Citizens are encouraged to attend board and commission meetings, which are always open to the public.
Board and commission meeting agendas are posted in the City/County Complex 48 business hours in advance.

Park County and NorthWestern Energy recently completed the exchange of 8.83 acres of vacant land near the Interstate 90 Exit 337 interchange at Chicken Creek for a large 11,150 sq. ft. facility, located on Lots 6-16, Block 96 in Livingston (209 South B Street). Word on the street from the NW Energy crew is that the building used to be a grocery store back in the day!
The process took a full two years from start to finish and we have many department staff members to thank for contributing to the many hours involved with this exchange. Special thanks to Kristin Bjella How for development and legal reviews of all required documents.
The next steps in this project are to complete feasibility assessments of the existing City/County Complex and the new B Street parcel to determine best uses of the facilities with initial ideas focusing on the eventual remodeling of the City/County Complex to serve as a dedicated Law & Justice Center and moving all administrative offices to the newly remodeled B Street location.
The Park County Health Department is partnering with residents to develop a new project called “Connect, Park County.” We realize what makes this place special is the people. With your help, we will look at resources and programs that bring our community closer together while also trying to understand some obstacles that might keep us apart. An example would be to help residents find new ideas for social interaction, and work with individuals on overcoming their barriers. Our goal is to strengthen our community, because like much of the world, connections can be frayed by things such as distance from family, changing social networks, economic situations, and technology. Issues such as the Covid-19 pandemic and the 2022 floods were local challenges. Miriam Skertich and Sheryl Hopkins are field team members for the Health Department. Our first area of work will be with residents over 50. Please participate in this project by completing a confidential and secure survey online here or use the QR code. Please invite friends and family to complete the survey as well. If you prefer a paper copy of the survey, please contact the Health Department. If you want to learn more about “Connect, Park County,” contact the Park County Health Department at 406 222-4145. |
