Remembering Yellowstone, the Yellowstone Gateway Museum’s fall speaker series, continues on Wednesday, October 25, 7:00 pm, with Lesley M. Gilmore, author of Canyon Village in Yellowstone: The Model for Mission 66. The program is free and open to the public.

The nationwide Mission 66 program enabled the National Park Service (NPS) to upgrade, improve, and infuse funding into the neglected and over-used parks from 1956 through 1966. The aim was for conservation, staffing, building, and road improvements to be completed for the 50^th anniversary of the NPS. This program was inaugurated at Canyon Village in Yellowstone National Park. 

Lesley M. Gilmore is Director of Historic Preservation Services for CTA Architects Engineers, a multi-disciplinary firm with offices in Wyoming, Colorado, and Montana.  She is a licensed architect with over 30 years of experience in various aspects of historic preservation, preservation planning, and related architectural design and coordination.  

She has led the restoration of masonry buildings at Montana State University, the Masonic Lodge #18 in Bozeman, and Lake General Store, the Nichols’ House, Albright Visitor Center, and Canyon Village Lodge in Yellowstone National Park.  Lesley has been an active board member of the Association for Preservation Technology, the Montana Historic Preservation Board, and the Bozeman Historic Preservation Advisory Board. She is a current board member of the Montana Preservation Alliance and the Extreme History Project.

All programs are part of the museum’s new Wednesday evening programming, Hump Day History, and are held at 7:00 pm at the Yellowstone Gateway Museum, 118 W. Chinook, Livingston. The speaker series is free and open to the public and refreshments are served. Doors will open at 6:00 pm for people to enjoy the museum’s exhibits before the program. Attendees must climb stairs to the top floor of museum for the program. A book signing follows the program.
