The annual meeting of the Friends of the Yellowstone Gateway Museum is Thursday, March 26, 6:30 PM, at the Livingston-Park County Public Library, 228 W. Calendar. Immediately following the brief meeting, at 7:00 PM, is a presentation by Paul Shea, Yellowstone Gateway Museum director, entitled “Dogs of Livingston: An Historic Look.”

Paul Shea will give a PowerPoint presentation that explores what can be learned from a Livingston dog register book dating from 1895 to 1939. One of the museum’s collection items, the ledger gives a glimpse into the lives of some of the town’s earlier well-known citizens and their dogs, how the city dealt with dog issues, as well as some surprise information.

Shea has been director of the Yellowstone Gateway Museum since December 2009. Before his move to Livingston, Shea was the director of the Yellowstone Historic Center in West Yellowstone, a position he held from 1998 to 2008. Shea has a long history in the Yellowstone National Park area and is originally from Nevada.

Members of the Friends non-profit organization and others interested in learning about the museum are urged to attend the annual meeting. People only interested in the program are welcome to slip in at 7:00 PM when there will be a break for refreshments.

This is the third program in the museum’s Livingston speaker series. The final program is April 16. Lee Whittlesey, Yellowstone Park historian, gives a presentation entitled, “Gateway to Yellowstone: The Raucous Town of Cinnabar on the MT Frontier.” It will also be held at 7:00 PM at the Livingston-Park County Public Library.
